Breathing equipment for babies SIPAP in 2013
In 2013, thanks to the wonderful response by companies in purchasing our charity cards, we were able to donate another SIPAP respiratory equipment to Riga Children’s Clinical University. The respiratory equipment is designed for infants. When we visited the hospital, this device had already been installed and was supporting a newborn with weight well below 900 g.
The aim of the machine is gentle and precise life support. Every new born unable to breath or breath properly needs this machine to help stabilize his or her breathing. Its other key function is to continuously keep the child’s lungs under slight pressure to stop them from sticking together.
Putting a child under this system is painless and infection-proof, thus protecting their internal organs. The newborns can be very tiny, and great care is required by doctors in treating them.
The moment a child begins to breathe independently, the machine signals to the doctors that the tiny patient no longer requires life support.
Currently, the Infant Intensive Care Unit has eight machines of this sort, and with your help two of those were provided by us.
